Read the full Etsy blog post.Three years ago Alice Saunders of Forestbound and Francesca Zmetra of Thirteen Eighty-Five and the blog The Snail and The Cyclops became roommates in an old house in Jamaica Plain, MA. They didn't know each other at the time but because of their similar aesthetic and style they bonded instantly and became best of friends. Alice's aesthetic leans toward the old military Americana style with a collection of canvas bags, found bones, birch bark, vintage lace and postcards. Francesca's style is more feminine, wartime beauty parlor/ apothecary.

Read the full Etsy blog post.While traveling to help promote Etsy as a sponsor of the Bay Area Maker Faire last spring, I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to visit the wondrous place that is La Selva. After a beautiful sunlight-through-the-mist drive down the winding seaside road of Highway 1, I reached Watsonville, CA, and eventually La Selva, where Nikki Silva, a public radio producer best known for her work as one half of the Kitchen Sisters, greeted me. Nikki led me through the communal home that she and eight others have built for themselves in over thirty years of hard toiling work. Naturally we waited all day for a break in the fog so I could get a shot of the majestic view overlooking Monterey Bay.

The idea of studying lutherie didn't come to James until later in life. He'd been a musician since he was a kid and worked various jobs throughout his life to support his bluegrass music career.Etsy found Rob Kalin and videographer Tara Young aka weirdwolf headed to Springfield, TN to meet luthier James Peters and see where he creates his handmade guitars.
