It's the world as seen through the lens of Dave Althoff's video camera. Mostly amusement ride related clips, but it could be anything that Dave finds interesting.
Perhaps the most unusual ride at Kentucky Kingdom (removed in 2005). Many people have seen this ride, which very seldom operated, and remarked that it looked like a pretty neat ride. Perhaps a look at this clip of the ride operating in 1994 will cure anyone of that misconception. (Quake logo photo supplied by Paul Drabek/Negative G)
This two-minute video includes some of the rarest coaster footage you will ever see, so rare that you won't even find it on Theme Park Review. I visited Putt 'N Pond Action Park in Fostoria, Ohio to ride the Pipeline Express, a Bailey roller coaster. This particular ride had track made out of PVC plastic pipe. As far as I know, it is the only Bailey coaster that never had steel rails. Unfortunately the ride has been dismantled. But you can see the on-ride video that I shot back in 1994.
This high-speed carousel is one of three still in operation. This is a very basic shot of a single full cycle, recorded in the 2011 season and posted here in response to a discussion board conversation.
You know the expression, 'to shoot the works'? Here's an example taken from a tiny little chunk of the Columbus, Ohio 'Red White & Boom' fireworks display on Friday, July 1, 2011. My viewing position was selected to maximize my viewing pleasure, not that of my camera, so I'm afraid you only get to see a little chunk of the sky...
A presentation given on April 2, 2011 by Walt Schmidt, Co-Publisher of pointbuzz.com , at the PointBuzz off-season event at Cedar Point.
Recorded March 29, 2008. Take a ride on the Wiegand-built Mountain Coaster at Wisp Resort in McHenry, Maryland. This video has actually been on-line (albeit smaller, and with a different codec) since 2008 on my web page where it accompanies a more conventional trip report. See it here: http://capital2.capital.edu/admin-staff/dalthoff/adventures/tr2008/wisp.html On board video taken with the permission of Wisp Resort staff. Always ride responsibly; respect rides...they have none for you.
For the 1964 Worlds Fair, the Velare Brothers constructed a unique Ferris wheel. ;At the conclusion of the Fair, the wheel was taken to the Allan Herschell company, which re-engineered it into a portable production-model wheel.
Recorded in 2002. ;This presentation includes complete on-ride video from both the Screechin' Eagle (Miller/1928) and the Serpent (SDC Galaxi /1987). I'll eventually do a more complete look at the park if I can find the footage, but for now I wanted to get this out.
Idlewild Park, located on historic US-30 outside Ligonier, PA, is a neat park with a few one-of-a-kind attractions. ;Back in 2000, a loosely-organized group of roller coaster enthusiasts (mostly rec.roller-coaster newsgroup participants) got together at Idlewild for an Independence Day Weekend picnic.
Just days before the official end of the season on Labor Day Weekend, Conneaut Lake Park re-opened the Blue Streak roller coaster, which has sat idle since 2006. During the season, Leonard Adams Jr. (he's running the ride at the end) and his crew from Structural Technologies rebuilt the ride's horseshoe turnaround. For the holiday weekend, the coaster was running, and a healthy crowd gathered to ride, even at $3 per ride. Stick around; there's complete on-ride video at the end of the clip.
