This time-lapse video documents Wayne White's three-week Rice Gallery residency during which he and a team of assistants created BIG LECTRIC FAN TO KEEP ME COOL WHILE I SLEEP.
In this video, Los Angeles artist Wayne White, who is best known as the Emmy-winning creator and performer of many of the puppet characters in the hit, late-1980s television show, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, discusses his installation at Rice Gallery. BIG LECTRIC FAN TO KEEP ME COOL WHILE I SLEEP combines White's passions for puppetry and painting in a room-sized work of art that is a tribute to country music legend George Jones. In this video, Brazilian artist Henrique discusses his work with Rice Gallery's student attendants.

For "too much," his installation at Rice Gallery, artist Michael Salter has wrapped the walls with his personal icons and pictograms. Visitors can join the Styrobot in experiencing Salter’s take on the “tidal wave of imagery that our visual culture crashes down upon us everyday.” Free admission and parking nearby. On view November 6 – December 14, 2008. More information at www.ric...
