This is Woodworking A-D-D. We cover everything from wood turning to period furniture. My style is all the styles and I talk about how to balance it all in a small shop.
A simple check list before performing any task in the wood shop. Don't be a lazy shop dog!
There are a lot of tools out there that make cut lists and any of them will work too, but I walk through a simple exercise in SketchUp that will help you plan out what kinds of boards to get when you go to the lumber yard, then aid your further in the shop to get a good color and grain match.
Craig Jackson was nice enough to get on the phone with me and talk about the story behind Easy Wood Tools turning tools.
At work I was asked to clean up a piece of vertical grain Douglas Fir to be sent to a client as a sample. I know I have covered this before but I thought I would just turn on the camera and let it roll while I hand planed the board. Enjoy!
Once again I took a trip to Colonial Williamsburg. This time I share some "fly on the wall" video from the Hay cabinet shop as well as a test drive of a treadle lathe in the Joiner's shop.
Finally I apply finish to my Queen Anne Side Table using a simple store bought shellac finish
I got a chance to review the Knew Concepts Fret Saw and liked it so much I bought it. I then pimped it out with an Elk Head Tools handle and now have the slickest fret saw around.
Vogt Toolworks sent this Super Chute version 2 to me to play with an review. I bought version 1 back in 2010 so it was really interesting to see what improvements had been made. Check out my thoughts
I got a question from Joe wondering which hand planes would be best to replace a planer and jointer since he can't afford to buy those tools yet. I spend some time talking about planes for milling then broach a bigger subject about whether this is the best route to consider for the power tool or hybrid woodworker.
When I bought a smoother from Scott he sent along 3 other planes to try out. I like them so much that I went ahead and bought another one. Check out my review of this boutique plane maker.
