Arriving in Detroit in 1975, Kurt Metzger worked for the US Census Bureau, immersing himself in the region's demographics and history. This, along with graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati, prepared him with an adept knowledge of Detroit's place in national and global immigration trends.In 1990 Metzger began his work at Wayne State University, later becoming its Director for the Michigan Metro Info Center.As a result of his expertise -- refined as Research Director at United Way for Southeastern Michigan in recent years -- he often serves as a valuable source for local media, including The Detroit News and The MetroTimes.Metzger announced at the DOI's October 2008 program that he will be creating a new center for data in Metropolitan Detroit.
