Mike Smith was born in Detroit and grew up in the s and ླྀs, closely tied to the city's automotive industry and unions. While his father worked for gasoline companies like Shell and Leonard, his grandfather was a unionized worker for Detroit Edison.Smith has spent his entire career devoted to the auto capital--first as a mechanic, then a service manager in auto dealerships, and working 3 years on The Motor City Exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum.Smith is the current Director of the Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne State University, where he shares his vital knowledge of automotive history.
