Tobacco-Free Outdoor Spaces

All of the NYS Tobacco Control Program funded Community Partnerships work with municipalities to adopt tobacco-free outdoor policies. The number of municipalities adopting such policies is growing rapidly across New York State; over 280 policies to date. The Community Partnership in Ulster County, Tobacco Free Action Coalition (TFAC), has successfully worked with the County of Ulster and 18 of Ulster?s 24 municipalities as they have adopted tobacco-free outdoor air policies or local laws. Preceding the recent passage of a New York City law restricting smoking in city parks, beaches, public plazas and boardwalks, the New York City Coalition for a Smoke-Free City was instrumental in educating community members and elected officials about the benefits of tobacco-free outdoor air policies. Today?s speakers will talk about the benefits and implementation of tobacco-free outdoor policies.
