Picture Monterey partners with Picture America.org, founded by Academy Award winning film maker John Longenecker, to create videos to tell the story of the Arts in Monterey County. Picture America provides video services, high-definition cameras, booms, mics, monopods, and hand grips to film makers telling stories in Monterey County. Our first partners have been the Arts Council for Monterey County, the Golden State Theater, and non profit arts groups throughout Monterey County. See some of the art that has been created by two workshops that FNM produced in Marina in 2010 at the Marina Los Arboles Middle School and Marina Teen Center. Hear the words of Salinas 3rd graders as they speak out about PEACE and violence. Funding made possible by Robert and Audrey Talbott Foundation, Harden Foundation and Arts Council for Monterey County. The kids at Hollister's La Paz Children Center had a great visit to an senior care center and told their stories of Sí Se Puede attitudes. It's becoming an annual ;collaboration between Megan Heath, SoMoCAT, and Picture Monterey.org. Michael Houston did the video and Charles Miller acted as producer. The Arts Council for Monterey County honored Caminos del Arte its award for 2011 Non Profit Champion of the Arts. Caminos puts on four community festivals in the Salinas Valley every year. Ruth Hermosillo, Francis Nolder, and Nico Alvarez accept the award. Caminos del Arte also offers free music and dance classes. You should join the mariachi class at El Dorado Park on Tuesday evenings.

Artist Carolyn Berry shares how art offers healing and hope in a world with so many physical and social challenges. She cites the work of soviet era Russian poet, Ana Akhmatova, who found beauty and even liberation in the challenges of the day-to-day. The Arts Council for Monterey County helps fund the annual Art and Healing show at the Avery Gallery in Seaside, CA.
Cherly Ellis gives a brief explanation how her art helped her through life threatening illness and gave her greater joy in her day-to-day life. The Healing Arts Project brings artists overcoming health issues and creating billiant art. The show is presented annually at the Avery Gallery in the Seaside City Hall.
