On Thursday 14th August, twitter withdrew its free UK SMS alerts service, citing costs and an inability to negotiate acceptable fees with UK mobile networks. One week later, on Wed 20th August, twittex went live as a replacement service for UK twittex. So how did we do it, and what would we do differently next time? twittex is built on the power of PHP and the LAMP stack, relying on the symfony framework and MySQL 5.1 with the Q4M extension.
