Ten Songs Podcast is a mix of punk, hardcore, folk and garage songs compiled as a homemade a "radio show". I play songs that I dig and I really hope you like them too. Sometimes I have guests to help me out. Sometimes theres live session sets from bands I like. Thats about it really. This podcast used to be uploaded monthly but I'm in semi-retirement now so there will be new shows when I can be rigged and I have enough great tunes that I want to share. Thanks for taking the time to check this out.
I’m back in the UK now (bah) but my last house in Australia was in Highgate Hill, Brisbane. It was a big Queenslander with roaches and a good mix of house mates who passed like ships in the night but were all vaguely into punk and hardcore of some kind. In times gone by, I probably would have done some Aaron Cometbus inspired zine about the history of the house and all the kids who had lived there. But this is 2011 not 2003 and I’m a lot lazier than I used to be so instead I decided to make a ...

This show is a trans-world (?) split with Get In The Van #2, put together via the magic of the information superhighway across about 1000 billion miles and multiple time zones. Ben recorded his show in Leeds, UK and his half features a mix of mostly local punk/hardcore. It’s pretty ripping. Then you get to listen to me mumbling my way through the usual mix of punk, hardcore and garage tunes, all compiled in the comfort of my bedroom in Brisbane, Australia. Enjoy. – Phil Chokeword Track Listing...
In this show: 1. A rad set of songs chosen by Alex who does an awesome zine called Jerk Store. If you have any interest at all in pop punk or related stuff you should order a copy. 2. That long overdue listener request set. 3. A bunch of other sweet tunes. Thanks to Alex and everyone else who contributed to this show. I’m stoked on how it came out. So much so I’ve listened it three times today already. - Phil Chokeword Track Listing 1. Billy Bragg & The Red Stars – Accident Waiting To Happen (...
Ok. This is meant to be the last show, but what the fuck. After a few months off, I’ve enjoyed putting it together so I recon they’ll be a few more when I get enough stuff to play. Anyhow this is a striped down Ten Songs. I’m back to the original format of just playing ten songs I think are great, partly because I like the idea of going back to basics, partly cos I’ve been spending money on things other than music and partly because my internet access has been too intermittent to until now to ...
The second to last podcast! Wow. In this show: 1. A guest set from Ian at killyourown.co.uk. Kill Your Own is kinda like the British version of If You Make It. Ian’s collated lots of rad UK DIY punk and hardcore records for you to download for free (there’s the option to make a donation). It’s a great resource and he was kind enough to put together some tracks for this show. Check it out at killyourown.co.uk. 2. I bought no new records this month, which is deeply weird and probably the first t...
Another month, another late show. This is starting to feel like doing a fanzine ha ha. Anyhow, this month, I’ve got a guest podcaster helping me out – Toby from A Load Of Stuff That Happened blog was kind enough to record a guest set for me. A Lot Of Stuff That Happened is a collection of live videos and mp3s from shows Toby attended and his section of this podcast includes four of his favourite recordings. You should check it out. It’s pretty great. As well as that, there’s the usual punk/har...
Ok! It’s August already. Time for a new show. This one features a guest set from my friends Ian and Debbie. We organised this over email, with them both sending me two songs each. It came out really well – not only is there a rad set of melodic punk, they’ve also picked a bunch of great bands I’d otherwise probably have never heard and I’m always stoked when people want to help out with the show. There’s another live set this month. This time out, it’s Chris Clavin, recorded playing live in Pu...
Hello. 1. I’ve had no internet connection from Sunday until tonight. Ok this show was going to be late anyhow but now it’s later still. Sorry. 2. There’s a live set from Whole In The Head. WITH play crusty thrashy hardcore. It’s pretty raging. Bit like Dropdead. Maybe. Cheers to them and Rich Smith for making it happen, I’m stoked on how this set came out. 3. There’s also a set of lo-fi pop punk bands that all feature Chris Plan It X/Ghost Mice/etc. This is because I’ve become hooked on the Im...
Things you should know this month: 1. This show features an awesome live set from Failures Union. When Rich gave me it, I was blown away and immediately thought it was good enough to be a “proper” record. If you haven’t heard of Failures Union, they toured the UK not so long ago, feature current and ex-members of The Exit Strategy, and The Grail and Lemuria, and play totally sweet mid-90’s style US indie/alt rock that I’m sure you’ll really dig. 2. I didn’t buy any hardcore records this month ...
