Zephyr Teachout is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Duke Law School, where she teaches election law. She was formerly the National Director of the Sunlight Foundation, the Director of Online Organizing for Howard Dean's 2004 campaign, and a visiting researcher at the Center for Investigative Journalism in Bosnia-Herzegovenia.In this PdF2008 keynote, which opened the first day of the conference on June 23, 2008, she challenged the audience to go beyond seeing web organizing in "industrial" terms (as in millions of users or donations), and instead focus on the "democratic" potential of the technology.
