PCM Field Class is a place to showcase class projects produced by students enrolled in Portland Community Media's Project-Based Field class. Project-based learning (PBL) is a model of learning that shifts away from the traditional practices of short, isolated, teacher-centered lessons and instead emphasizes learning that is long-term, interdisciplinary, student-centered, and integrated with real world issues and practices. Students jointly determine their production topic, plan, shoot, and edit a complete field segment. Students learn to tell a story using the medium of television; basic storyboarding and scripting; conducting an interview in the field; the fundamentals of field lighting, audio, and camcorder operation; and editing in Final Cut Express. Portland Community Media (PCM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the production of local, non-commercial public access media—developed and produced in the community, by the community and for the community. PCM has served the citizens of Portland, Oregon for 25 years, providing training and tools for individuals and organizations to use cablecast and other media as a means of communication, civic involvement, artistic and cultural expression and community development. The Mission of Portland Community Media is to promote broad participation in civic and cultural life by encouraging effective use and understanding of community media. For more information check out our website
