KABUL (PAN): A member of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the Afghan spy network, was in an exchange of fire in Kabul on Saturday, officials said. A guard and a civilian were wounded in the incident in the Hussainkhel area of the 12th police district, where the NDS personnel were searching vehicles. Deputy police chief, Mohammad Daud Amini, told Pajhwok Afghan News the intelligence official was killed and a guard of the lawmaker injured. An investigation team has been sent to the area. A tribal elder, Malik Amanullah, said the gunfire erupted when the intelligence operative started searching the car of Amir Jan Dawlatzai, a member of the Wolesi Jirga from eastern Nangarhar province. Dawlatzai claimed the NDS employees, after searching his vehicle, opened fire on his guards, for reasons not known to him. Some of his guards were wounded, he said, denying that his security men had fired on NDS workers. PAJHWOK/Ataullah Khpelwak
