Shaky camera work, and the city experienced some audio problems, but nonetheless a great day. Congratulations, Katie!
Meet Laura Lewis, new owner of the Beech Grove Meat Market. Laura and her husband have taken a Beech Grove staple and moved it to a bigger, brighter building (with a parking lot!) at 423 Main Street. They plan to keep the same quality meat and produce, with an eye towards expanding product and services in the future. Who wouldn't like to have a soda fountain back on Main Street? Jim has fully retired, but Ken is staying with the market for six months to pass on his butchering knowledge and ski...
Brenda Powell at the SK8 Shop, 615 Main Street, and Andy Raworth, owner of UltraViolet Skate Park are partnering with the City of Beech Grove to install an indoor skateboard park. With UltraViolet closing, Andy wants to see his investment continue to benefit youth. He and Brenda are forming a not-for-profit partnership to realize that goal, as well as working towards the development of a larger facility that will accomodate activities beyond skateboarding.
There are lots of things going on in our parks and around our city. In this episode we visit with the owners of three businesses who bring something a little different to Main Street. Listen to what they have to say about why they are here and maybe learn something you didn't know about our community.
We're back for another season! It was a busy summer in the Grove. The local Democrats announced a partial slate for 2007, the skate park was moved to Sarah Bolton, the Centennial towers were dedicated at the Emerson Avenue gateway to Main Street, the Promoter's Club organized the biggest parade her ever, and more. Take a look!
Spring is here and lots of projects are underway around town (Beech Grove, Indiana). TIF monies from property owned by Wal-Mart and Lowe's will be funding enhancements to Emerson Avenue and the future development of annexed land at Subway and Emerson Avenue. The city is also moving the skateboard park behind South Grove Elementary School to a more visible and desirable location at Sarah T. Bolton Park.
Well, we started our postings in reverse order, so we'll continue here with the ending commentary from our fifth episode. (This a re-do, attempting to fix audio and video being out of sync.)
Final interview of our March episode, with Jennifer and Larry of Curl Up & Dye. Jennifer is excited about the proposed plans for revitalization and would like to see a Main Street with more retail and a more family-oriented atmosphere. She says, “…a lot of people in Beech Grove have some great ideas.” She would like to see everyone get together, focus on those ideas, and make them a reality. “We’ll have a great town.”
We continue our March episode interviewing Terri, owner of Hair Snips. Terri’s shop struggles with parking issues, specifically a lack of handicapped spaces and lax enforcement of a city ordinance which limits Main Street parking to 90 minutes. (Note: After continued failed efforts to get assistance from City Hall, these parking problems are finally being addressed after Terri presented her concerns in a public forum. The squeaky wheel often does get the grease.)
The March epsiode feature interviews with the owners of three beauty salons on Main Street. Meet Tammy of 7th Avenue Nails & Spa. Tammy likes her store front and the small town appeal of her location on Main Street. In addition to encouraging more variety in the area’s businesses, she would like to see the city address parking concerns and advertise Main Street more. “Even the Beech Grove people don’t know what’s down here because they never venture down here.”
