O'Reilly Tools of Change for Publishing Conference

About this episode

TV-UN

When Applewood Books began over 30 years ago, its first book was a hand-printed, hand-bound limited edition printed on hand-made paper. Because the one-to-one relationship of publisher and book was personal and direct, it was easy for the publisher to inject old world publishing values and create a tactile and visual experience beyond the content. Today, Applewood still publishes reprints, but instead of one every six months, the company now, through its partnerships with HP and Ingram, is publishing a dozen or so a day. The objective of this session is to reveal the steps taken by this reprint publisher to reestablish the company?s mission and brand by adapting historic bookmaking methods in state-of-the-art workflows. From editorial decisions through marketing plans, this session will be a source of inspiration for any publisher who wants to break through barriers to growth by embracing technology and injecting it with publishing values.
