Craig Sinclair (Amherstmedia.org) explains how to sync Group roles created in CiviCRM with Drupal roles. Group roles in the Open Media Project are usually used to specify types of certification; completion of edit training, camera training, etc. This enables you to automatically update permissions for Drupal users based on Civi group records, taking advantage of Drupal's granular permissions for different custom user roles: admin, anonymous user, authenticated user, etc. This is also explained in text form here: http://openmediaproject.org/handbooks/equipment/configuration/civicrm
