About this episode

TV-UN

After September 11, 645 incidents against Americans of Middle Eastern descent or South Asian descent (including Indians, Pakistanis and Sikhs) were reported, some fatal. In a concerted effort to expand support, understanding and knowledge both within and outside their community, South Asians responded quickly with legal actions, community meetings and rallies. Geared toward educational, social services, law enforcement, medical and legal professionals, this video tracks the sharp increase in the number of hate crimes that both preceded and followed September 11 and offers important statistics, history and guidelines about South Asian communities in the U.S. Its straightforward information encourages diverse communities across the country to communicate with each other in order to reduce tension and act affirmatively against bigotry.
