Oakhillnature.org is the website of the "Friends of Oakhill" an organisation set up in August 2005 after vandalism of the Oakhill country park, Goole, in East Yorkshire, UK, galvanised people to act. We knew then that we had to get formal protection for the area to encourage proper use of the site, or it could be lost forever. Our group is dedicated to setting up a local nature reserve and country park to safeguard the area for both people and wildlife. It's hoped that improving the local environment will attract investment to further improve the area and boost the local economy. Oakhill is home to whiskered bats, barn owls and great crested newts; all living in the shadow of nearby industrial development.

Peter Levy introduces a special report from Oakhill country park in Goole, East Yorkshire - where an amphibian-proof barrier forces migrating great crested newts onto ground being torn up by heavy plant machinery. Children visiting the site discover one of the endangered newts attempting to scale the poorly sited plastic barrier and consider the dangers posed by bulldozers on land enroute to their breeding ground.

Work begins on the new distribution centre at Centreport, Goole (UK). Planning decisions involving the drainage of the land proves controversial and there is concern about the affect the scheme will have on the adjacent Oakhill country park.
