Diabetes is a group of diseases characterized by high blood glucose levels that result from defects in the body's ability to produce and/or use insulin. Diabetes is a common disease, yet every individual needs unique care. You can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes through a healthy lifestyle; by changing your diet, increasing your level of physical activity, and maintaining a healthy weight you can stay healthier longer and reduce your risk. It often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes. On todays show, Erin sits down with Dr. Peggy Odegard and discusses this disease and offers insight on treatment and prevention. Then Paul and Mira Sorvino join us and discuss their experiences with Diabetes.
