aquila has two young cheetahs they've been raising "tame" since birth. so you can just go hang out in their pen when they're there and pet 'em (well, under supervision, and after you sign your life away). they were so completely chill. all they do is purr. and they purr so loud their whole body vibrates. it's amazing.
We went to a game reserve called aquila. it's not really a safri, more of just a ride around a gigantic zoo with no fences. a 4500 acre zoo. it's a two hour ride from cape town through the mountains to get there, and it was absolutely gorgeous. and cold as hell. i was the only one wearign a jacket, so i was the official photographer and documentarian.
langa is one of the townships outside of cape town. townships are where all the non-whites were relocated to under apartheid. most non-whites still live there because either they don't have the means to move or because they are comfortable there and would prefer to stay in their hometown. here's some young kids chasing bubbles around one of the housing complexes.
our wait staff performed a variety of local traditional music after our meal. good food, good music and seriously happy people. two thumbs up, even if it was ultra-touristy
i'm not sure if it's cultural or if it's purely to cater to tourists but everything at a big event seemed to start and end with traditional music
wouldn't you know our first day in cape town was the nicest day of the trip. here we are watching the tram up table mountain thinking "yah, we should do that while we're here." but the weather got so crappy we never had the chance.
