Growing Native – Celebrating Tribal Cultures and Traditional Ways. A Public Television Film Production. Promotional Trailer, featuring Santa Clara Pueblo artist Roxanne Swentzell with host, film director Chris Eyre (Cheyenne & Arapaho); produced by Beverly Morris (Aleut) at KNME in Albuquerque, N.M. NAPT employed a Native crew in this production. From the trailer, “Roxanne founded The Flowering Tree Institute to promote and practice sustainable methods of agriculture. Roxanne’s passions include the seed bank she has created and maintained for Santa Clara and Pojoaque pueblos.” This NAPT project in development entitled Growing Native is a seven episode television series on tribal sovereignty and indigenous sustainability. As a cultural travelogue, Growing Native will visit geographic regions of Indian Country in the nation where tribal communities are thriving despite the odds. With a spotlight on indigenous foods and farmers, Growing Native will spark a dialogue about indigenous sustainability and food justice amongst epidemic health statistics for Indians and large scale environmental concerns of a generation facing global climate change. Growing Native brings a voice of hope from Native America, by showing the strength of our cultural ways as stewards of the land. This series is critical for Native people to recover and revitalize our indigenous knowledge systems for our own survival and as a way for non-Natives to live a healthier lifestyle in balance with the earth. http:www.nativetelecom.org
