When he became a teenager he joined a local wrestling club in which he loved to be a part of. His training in wrestling was that of the European style of technical wrestling with no wasted motion and every move done for a reason. After spending a few years training and working shows, he moved to Japan where he learned even more about wrestling in the style of Strong Style and King's Road. Riley's stay in Japan made him thirst for more so he moved to Mexico for a while to learn the higher points of Lucha LIbre from some of the most notable luchadores including Rey Mysterio Sr. His stint in Mexico was very successful as he donned a mask and went by the name "El Liono". He won many titles throughout Mexico until receiving calls from Canadian promotions looking to book him. Lance flew to Canada and worked under the name Lance Sexton until finally settling with his real name of Lance Riley. Riley finally made it to America where he wrestled in Mid-West promotions for a while. The announcers at the time had given him the nickname "The Charismatic Lion" due to his long flowing mane and the natural charisma that he had which drew him fan adulation while his in-ring work garnished him praise and respect in every locker room he stepped foot in.
