www.movingstories.tv – Seán Cullen and Paul Quarrington are grown-ups whose stories are inspired by childhood imagination and reality. You might remember Cullen from the 1980's musical comedy troupe Corky and the Juice Pigs. Well into the new millennium, Cullen brings us Hamish X, the mysterious orphan superhero whose boots we all wish were on our own feet. Cullen reflects on the solitary process of writing as being markedly different from working in television, where everyone's at the ready with instant editorial. He’s clearly a people person, so why does he willingly work “in a vacuum” to write? “I do it because I’m an artist, and I follow my muse.” Quarrington, author, filmmaker and musician, talks about the tremendous influence of music in his life and work and Dave Bidni makes a special guest appearance with Porkbelly Futures. In his new novel, he captures the mid-life consequences of a remote boyhood adventure in The Ravine. His character Phil McQuigge inspires both pathos and delight as he revisits his past in an attempt to make things right in the present. Quarrington is currently directing Pavane, a short film co-produced by BookShorts based on The Ravine. He is also the Programming Director of Moving Stories Film Festival. You can meet these boys-to-men at Book Expo Canada, the annual event which provides book industry professionals networking opportunities with authors, publishers, sales agents, wholesalers and distributors from across the country. Visit the BookShorts Lounge on the BEC show floor and the full schedule of author appearances at BEC’08 here. (c) 2008 BookShorts MovingStories.TV.
