EMAS is the acronym for Escuela Móvil de Agua y Saneamiento (Mobile School for Water and Sanitation), in Bolivia, which is run by Wolfgang Eloy Buchner. EMAS is not only the name of the mobile school for water and sanitation, but also a whole technical and social concept of water and sanitation which includes rain water harvesting, solar water heaters, windpower, hydraulic rams, water treatment, small tanks and sinks, a variety of hand and foot pumps, and ferrocement tanks. More information on EMAS is available on the EMAS website.
This movie gives an overview of all the technologies used in the EMAS concept: manual well drilling, hand-powered water pumps, pedal-powered water pumps, windmills, ferrocement tanks, spring catchment, latrines, solar heating, drip irrigation, hydraulic ram.
This movie gives a short impression of the EMAS training center in Puerto Perez, Bolivia.
This movie describes how to make different kind of pipe fittings from PVC pipe, such as T-pieces, attaching a smaller tube to a larger one, making an air chamber, and making a hole in a plastic container.
EMAS manual well drilling is a method for drilling small-diameter tube wells by hand. The drilling method is a hybrid between washboring, percussion and rotary drilling. It permits to drill through all kinds of loose soils, as well as consolidated materials and light rock. It will not, however, penetrate hard original rock or boulders (e.g. ancient river beds underground). The usual diameter of the tube well is 37 mm. Movie made by Wolfgang Buchner, EMAS. EMAS manual well drilling is a method for drilling small-diameter tube wells by hand. This is a variant to the standard EMAS drilling method, which is described here. The drilling method is a hybrid between washboring, percussion and rotary drilling. It permits to drill through all kinds of loose soils, as well as consolidated materials and light rock. It will not, however, penetrate hard original rock or boulders (e.g. ancient river beds underground). The usual diameter of the tube well is 37...
This movie shows how you can improve an existing shallow handdug well by using an EMAS hand pump.
EMAS manual well drilling is a method for drilling small-diameter tube wells by hand. This movie shows the materials needed for the EMAS technique. The main movie showing the process is available .The drilling method is a hybrid between washboring, percussion and rotary drilling. EMAS manual well driling is a method for drilling small-diameter tube wells by hand. There are different variants to the technique, depending on soil type and required depth. This technique uses sludging in combination with temporary casings of different diameter. Movie made by Wolfgang Buchner, EMAS. More information on www.emas-international.de/english/index_e.htm.
All EMAS handpump designs use glass marbles and standard PVC fittings or pipes as return valves. Different pump designs are available for high pressure, high quantity, hand-powered, pedal-powered, and windmill powered. The valves in this design iare made from PVC pipes.
All EMAS handpump designs use glass marbles and standard PVC fittings and pipes as return valves. Different pump designs are available for high pressure, high quantity, hand-powered, pedal-powered, and windmill powered. This pump design is specially designed for pumping larger quantities.
