"Paul Pierog (Not Your President)" might actually be THE weirdest show on MNN. It is a semi-motivational experiment in wordplay and uncomfortable TV silence, a spoof of talking heads and having something to "say." In fact, nothing Paul Pierog "says" is purely said. It is stammered, brooded upon, quipped - the TV equivalent of a Thomas Pynchon novel. Highly recommended as both a curiosity and as art, "Paul Pierog" airs every other Thursday at 8 PM on MNN2. Next air dates: 5/26 and 6/9.
"Controversia Y Algo Mas" is a one-man sketch comedy show in Spanish, focusing on the frenetic relationships between ridiculous characters. Whether you speak Spanish or not, it's doubtful you will follow the convoluted plot lines or make sense of, say, the beautiful original score that offsets the madness. This is homegrown comedy at its strangest, created in a Washington Heights vacuum, and beamed to you every Saturday at 5:30 PM on MNN4!
"The Rare Groove Revolution," hosted by DJ Soulero, is an eye and ear-opening cornucopia of classic funk, jazz and fusion vinyl from the 1960s and '70s. Soulero takes special note of unsampled tracks to encourage up-and-coming producers and DJs. If you're looking for some genuinely positive and soulful vibes in the wee hours, join the Revolution, late Monday nights at 2 AM on MNN2!
"Ghoul A Go-Go" has been a shimmering gem in the MNN line-up for quite some time now. Billed as a "monster kiddie musical show," this monthly series sees ogres and toddlers dancing it up in black-and-white to campy 1950s fright rock. An instant upper, as silly as it is captivating, "Ghoul" airs on the third Thursday of every month at 9 PM on MNN2.
