St. Paul's Dorothy Day Center, the Twin Cities biggest provider of services to the homeless, is staying open for the Republican National Convention, which takes place around 200 yards away. Situated inside a pedestrians-only zone on the RNC security map, Day Center clients accustomed to biking there will be out of luck. So will anyone who lacks a Dorothy Day-issued “community card” with their photograph. Any backpacks or large bags will be inspected. MnIndy's Steve Perry and Paul Schmelzer discussed the coming event with some of the Center's clients, who said they feel the city wants to hide them from view of visiting dignitaries to the $50 million party.
