A revolution is happening in neuroanatomy, the study of the brain?s structure. Modern neuroanatomists are generating images that reveal the full complexity of the brain?s neural network using machines that slice brains into thin sections, and microscopes that see at the nanoscale. Seung?s lab is developing artificial intelligence that will analyze the images automatically to extract connectomes, maps of all connections between neurons in a brain. Seung is Professor of Computational Neuroscience, Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and the Department of Physics at the MIT, and Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Less
