Potiche (A Mayor Koch Review)

This movie is mildly funny, like a second-rate sitcom. Nevertheless, I could never give a bad rating to a film in which Catherine Deneuve stars. It ends with a Bollywood song-and-dance routine, clearly added because the scriptwriter ran out of ideas. By the way, if you have never seen the 1964 film “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” be sure to rent it. Deneuve at age 20 was then the most beautiful woman in the Western world and, for many, remains so, notwithstanding that with the passage of time she is a bit broader and matronly in appearance. Did you know that her image was once the face of Marianne, the national symbol of France? What a face!
