Tips, tricks and tutorials for the recording musician.
There's a well known "trick" where a delay is only applied to one word of a vocal or to the end of a riff. In this video we'll have a look at how to acheive this effect in Logic.
Audio Damage's Pulse Modulator is a fabulous free plug which provides complex, musical modulation effects with three seperate LFOs. In this video you'll see how to install Pulse Modulator and we'll give you a quick run through the controls and what sort of sounds you can acheive.

Here's a quick tutorial, showing how to time stretch vocals in Logic Pro. This Screencast was inspired by Imogen Heap, Imogen has posted the vocals from an unreleased track for people to remix, you can read more and grab the files here http://www.twestival.fm/?p=195. This video is also for Steve Schwarz who asked me how to time stretch in Logic Pro
Another free plug-in. This time it's Tapehead from Steven Massey, Tapehead is saturation plug-in inspired by analogue tape machines. In their own words "add a little saturation to your mix. Make your drums fuller & louder. Add some grit to vocals." Not only is Tapehead amazing it's also free, you can download from http://www.smassey.com/au.html . To share the love, we've made an introductory screencast, to introduce some of the possibilities, you can see it here.
Nostalgia abounds !! Back in the olden days when Logic supported VST plug-ins and free plug-ins were few and far between I used to use a plug-in called North Pole. North Pole is a filter plug-in and the good news is, it's now available as an AU, so compatible with Garageband, Logic and other hosts that support the AU format. You can download North Pole from http://www.prosoniq.com/ We've knocked up a quick introductory video, which hopefully you'll find useful.
In this screencast we'll demonstrate how to reverse audio in Logic Pro. This video focuses on the "classic" backwards cymbal effect, an oldie but a goody !! Hope you find it useful. MMN
We've already touched on the topic of automation and we'd suggest you watch both videos. Though both address a related topic, they approach it from very different angles. In this tutorial we focus on automating the parameters of effects.
In this episode we'll run through the process of installing third party Exs instruments. We'll show you the correct install location for the .exs file and it associated audio files.
