On Friday, 27 August 2010, the Executive Director of UNAIDS, Mr Michel Sidibé, addressed the Lowy Institute for International Policy as part of our Distinguished Speaker Series. In 1996, UNAIDS was established as a specialised agency of the United Nations to give policy guidance and advice on all aspects of the global struggle against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The Lowy Institute is an independent international policy think tank. Its objective is to generate new ideas and dialogue on international developments and Australias role in the world. Its mandate is broad. It ranges across all the dimensions of international policy debate in Australia - economic, political and strategic and it is not limited to a particular geographic region.
