The World Champion Viswanathan Anand lost to Vassily Ivanchuk in the Final of the Leon Rapid Chess Meet 2008 which concluded here in Leon on sunday. Playing with white Anand introduced a novely in f5 on the 17th move in the first game. However he made a wrong sacrifice, 38.Nxf6? was refuted by 40…Qxb2! This was a crucial blow to the world champion who could not defend himself thereafter. Anand had earlier lost to Ivanchuck in World Blitz last December at Moscow.
