Tim deSilva is a graphic designer and partner of Culture Pilot.With his partners Tim, Kara, and Grace, Culture Pilot are the driving force behind a number of community events including an interactive Houston at SXSW event and TEDxHouston. Leatherbag is an American power trio from Austin, Texas. After relocating to Austin from Houston in 2005, Leatherbag was formed by songwriter/guitarist, Randy Reynolds. In the time between the recording of Yellow Television (2011) and its release, Leatherbag pared down from a quartet to a trio. The band's new and final form finds Drew Emmons wired on bass and Danny Blanchard wild behind the drums. The band has performed at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and at the SXSW Music Conference Leatherbag is a book reference. The Energy and Weird Party are the musical guests. Community representative and audience of one is photographer, musician and perpetual music fan Mark Brubaker.The hour-long show features sets by the band recorded in SugarHill's historic Studio A and interviews with record producer Dan Workman and Host Gina Miller.One of Houston’s hottest hardcore punk bands, the Energy describe themselves as “weird fuckers playing noisy punk rock music with lyrics about violence and animals doing human activities.” The band are no strangers to the hardcore scene; their members have previously been involved in No Talk, Black Congress, and the Born Liars (to name but a few), and bassist Chris Ryan has recorded countless other acts at Dead City Sound.After a string of demos and singles, the band released their first LP earlier this year. Unceremoniously titled The Energy’s First Record, the album has already sold out for independent label Team Science. With reviewers praising the release as “legitimately boundary-pushing” the Energy are poised to light up the city.Weird Party are up-and-comers in the Houston music scene. Formed in December 2009, the band is planning to release two twelve-inch EPs in the coming year. Weird Party’s sound has been christened “spit rock,” but the band themselves prefer “throw-up rock.” Confused? Active in church and musical functions, she became the drum section leader in high school. Her all female band Kymistry was selected to tour with Roy Ayers and she's opened for The Braxtons, Back Street Boys, Glenn Jones and Johnnie Taylor. The Grooveline Horns are an internationally known three-man horn section including Carlos Sosa (sax), Fernando Castillo (trumpet) and Reggie Watkins (trombone). Suzanna Choffel and The Umbrella Man are the musical guests. Community guest and 'audience of one' is KPFT 90.1 FM?s host Rhonda Garner. She?s been highlighting local and regional talent on her radio program RadioACTIVE, along with co-host Phil Schawe, for six years and was the one co-creators of The SugarHill Sessions. The hour-long show features performances recorded live in SugarHill's historic Studio A and interviews with Hosts Dan Workman and Rosa Guerrero. Suzanna Choffel is a singer/songwriter from Austin whose unique sound has been described as ?equal parts Beat poetry, smoky soul grooves and indie-pop eccentricity. Think Feist meets Erykah Badu?. In Spring 2009, Suzanna won the "Best Indie Band" prize at the Austin Music Awards SXSW as well as 2nd Place in the "AAA" category of the prestigious International Songwriting Competition. Previously, Suzanna was selected by The State Of Texas to represent contemporary music in Texas On Tour, a countrywide traveling show promoting Texas tourism. The Umbrella Man is a Gulf Coast combo fronted by esteemed bassist, Nick Gaitan. Nick has won Houston Press Music Awards "Best Bassist" title from 2004 - 2008 consecutively. Additionally, he also plays and tours with Country music legend Billy Joe Shaver, who recently recorded "I've Found my Weakness in You", composed by Gaitan. Tyagaraja and Wild Moccasins are the musical guests. Community guest and 'audience of one' is photographer Mark C. Austin - Mark has covered nearly every major music festival from Bonnaroo, Voodoo Music Fest to Coachella and Jazz Fest and his work has been featured in publications like SPIN, Paste, Rolling Stone and Village Voice Media. His images are currently on display in 5 different permanent exhibits at the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas. The hour-long show features performances by the artists and in-depth interviews with hosts Rosa Guerrero and award-winning record producer Dan Workman. Tyagaraja is a singer/songwriter from the Houston and Austin areas. His voice, songwriting and lyrical content display the teachings he has absorbed from pilgrimages to India and his travels across the United States. His first band, Million Year Dance, won Album of the Year in the 2008 Houston Press Music Awards. His first full-length solo album An Open Book is due out in late March 2010. Pop punk trio Something Fierce and internationally loved garage rock legends, The King Khan and BBQ Show are the musical guests. Their first full-length, Come For The Bastards, was released in the Summer of 2006 with Frenchie Smith of Young Heart Attack producing. The album served as an introduction to their mix of speedy punk with indie rock sensibilities, such as the dual vocals of Steven Garcia and Niki Sevven. Over the last four years, has released two seven inch records and one full-length, "There Are No Answers". Sara Cress of the Houston Chronicle wrote, "Something Fierce has always been on a mission: say it fast, say it loud, make it fun and make it mean something."King Khan and Mark "BBQ" Sultan had collaborated as members of the Montreal-based Spaceshits from 1995-1999. During a European tour, Blacksnake (King Khan?s moniker) opted to remain in Germany and the group disbanded. Sultan went on to start another popular Montreal-based band, Les Sexareenos, before venturing off on his own as a one-man band under the pseudonym BBQ. As BBQ, Sultan re-established contact with Khan, playing alongside his new band, King Khan & the Shrines. Andrew Karnavas' acoustic melodies are a blend of straightforward chord progressions and slow finger picking that combine elements of blues and folk. Ramirez is as amazing to watch as he is to listen to. He is the winner of 2008's "The Big Squeeze" accordion competition, a multi-state competition for nonprofessional players under the age of 25. The event, sponsored by Texas Folklife, was recently the subject of a documentary by director Hector Galán. The documentary aired on PBS May 8th.Los Skarnales is one of Houston's foremost rock en espa?ol acts. The seven-piece rock band mixes in the genres of danzon, cumbia, reggae, ska and cantina music with a punk rock attitude. The band formed in 1993 and has opened for international stars like The Specials and King Chango. Austin's The Blue Hit and Houston's own Buxton are the guests. The Blue Hit, a progressive folk trio, features Grace Rowland's angelic voice with David Moss on cello and John McGee on guitar. The precocious lyrics and the delicate instrumental arrangements are mesmerizing, and quite unlike any sound out there. Psychedelic, rock, folk fusion? We're just not sure... but it is something quite special.Buxton is a rock band based in the LaPorte/Houston area.
