Misterhouse remains the premier open source automation framework for linux and other operating systems. The talk will introduce you to misterhouse and how to use it to keep track of inputs (things like inside/outside temperature, humidity, UV factor, rain amount, moisture of your lawn, etc...) and make your house smart by reacting to them: - how to cheaply warm or cool your house by bringing in outside air when it's at the right temperature instead of running AC or your heater - make your HVAC system smarter by boosting cold/warm air to the rooms that need them depending on time on where you happen to be - shut off blinds when the sun is hitting your house to keep temps down - on demand running of a fan in your computer closet to control temperature - control your sprinklers based on rainfall and dirt moisture levels - smart composite timers for your outside lights based on multiple motion sensors - how to program switches to override timers (local control override vs automation) - scaring your cat off the kitchen counter is an extra credit bonus :) The talk will also talk about technologies you can use with misterhouse to get it to communicate with the outside world: - 1-wire temperature, humidity, I/O - 433.92Mhz rfxcom sensors and XPL gateway - X10RF and X10Sec via W800RF32/USB
