Leigh East travelled to West Hull missing five players who featured in the previous weeks game. For most teams that would have spelt disaster, however the current form of the East second team who are also top of their own division (NWC Div 1) made it easy for coach Mick Fishwick to select a strong team for the journey. West Hull were leading six - nil after thirty minutes through three penalty goals by Brett Turner. East responded with a Danny Kilshaw try on thirty-five minutes, converted from the touch line by Ryan Peters, followed by a try by Sam Hopkins on the stroke of half-time giving East a four point lead at the break. In the second half East continued to apply the pressure and move further ahead with tries by Scott O'Brien and Lee Rowley, both improved by Ryan Peters. Wests managed a consolation try seven minutes from time through Tom Radley, Mark Hewitt adding the extras but too late to affect the outcome of the game. East winning 22 points to 12 points. This coming Saturday, Mick Fishwick will have a lot to think about, however it's always good to have competition for positions. With some of the squad on representative duties on Sunday and the following Wednesday there may be another opportunity for some of the players to establish themselves in the squad. The weekends inclement weather didn't favour any clubs this weekend. The shock result was Skirlaugh losing 36-2 to Oulton, who visit Ledgard Avenue next Saturday (2:30 ko). St Pats beating Miners 18-14 at Miners also did East a favour. Most other games went to form but next weeks game against Oulton could be a real test of our metal
