Leigh East and West Hull opened the season in fine style With a few new faces on the East side, welcoming back John Woods , John Taylor and Scott O?Brian (away on Honeymoon) from Leigh Miners and also welcome to Gary Middlehurst from Halton Simms Cross. Both sides defended extremely well and made it difficult to make any gaps to reach the try line. Good defence by Ryan Fieldhouse plus strong running from Carl Mort and Steve Tooze applied pressure on West Hull up and on the 26th minute their hard work was rewarded, #4 John Woods saw the line and danced through and made a final stretch to place the ball over the line, converted by Gary Middlehurst. Toby Adamson was excellent in attack, supported by Groves making the hard yards. Half Time 6 ? 0. East appeared to be disjointed in the early part of the second half making a few mistake and allowing West Hull into their half on a regular basis. On 62 minutes Hulls Brett Turner made a fantastic break to go full length and put points on the board for Hull , converted by Kirman to level the score. Peters and Adamson began to dominate for East, Peters breaking through on the 70th minute found Adamson in support to cross the line to put east back in the lead, converted by Peters. It was still anyone?s game until the 77th minute when Peters added another point with a crafty drop goal. One minute later Seimisi Cocka for East battled hard to secure his first try of the season and another conversion by Peters. Final score ? 19 - 6
