TV-UN

Easts eight game winning run came to an abrupt end at Ledgard Avenue on Saturday against a resilient Oulton Raiders team, full of self belief after easily beating Skirlaugh the previous week. East scored in the first couple of minutes, Toby Adamson crossing in the corner. A second followed five minutes later, Gareth Pemberton making a half break in his own twenty found Gavin Hunter as he went down in the tackle, as Hunter approached the half way, drawing the Oulton wing and fullback in field for Danny Kilshaw to loop around the back to take the ball out wide and sprint to the corner for an 8-0 lead. Scoring two tries so easily in the early part of the game East started to throw the ball about, expecting a try from each set, this however was probably their downfall as some poor passes were thrown and little attention paid to building up pressure to create tries. Oultons Carlos Sanchez scored the easiest of tries on the twenty-fifth minute, strolling through between the post with some of the home players resembling statues. Alan White landing the extras. A further try by Sanchez with three minutes of the half remaining gave the visitors an unlikely two point lead at the interval. East appeared more structured in the second half but the Oulton defensive line was proving a tough nut to crack, but it was the visiting team who scored the first points on fifty minutes, White scoring in the corner and also adding the extra two for a 16-8 lead. East struck back almost immediately, Scott O?Brien doing a run round with Ryan Peters then shooting through the gap created by his run. With ten minutes remaining the home team looked to have saved the game when man of the match Sam Hopkins crashed over to level the scores and Peters converting to give East a two point lead. Oulton took the deserved win with a try with only three minutes remaining, followed by solid defending and sensible possession play. Although they are sitting at the opposite end of the table at the moment the spirit and commitment displayed by the Oulton team should help them climb the table and it wouldn?t surprise many if they made a playoff position at the end of the season. Final Score: EAST 18 OULTON 20
