It’s been nearly two weeks since the tragic massacre by police of the Lonmin workers at Marikana and the violence that preceded it. The event has evoked varied responses by interested parties with different information and raised many questions about the workers’ conditions, their demands and the subsequent role of the trade unions at Lonmin. In this special show we reflect on all of these issues and attempt to draw lessons on the role of trade unions in representing their members and preventing events unfolding as violently as it did.
