Senator Hutchison grew up in La Marque, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas and UT Law School. She was twice elected to the Texas House of Representatives. In 1990, she was elected Texas State Treasurer. In 1993, Texans elected Kay Bailey Hutchison to the United States Senate in a special election, making her the first -- and, to date, the only -- woman elected to represent the state in the Senate. One year later, she was re-elected to a full six-year term. And in 2000, she received more votes for her re-election to a second full term than any other statewide candidate had ever received. In 2006, she was again re-elected by an overwhelming margin. She serves in the Senate leadership, having been elected by her colleagues to be chairman of the Republican Policy Committee in the 110th Congress, making her the fourth-highest ranking Republican senator and the highest ranking Republican woman. Sen. Hutchison also serves on the Republican National Hispanic Assembly (RNHA) National Advisory Committee. The senator lives in Dallas with her husband, Ray, and their two children, Bailey and Houston.
Today, Texans for Kay Bailey Hutchison launched its latest television ad, “Honest.” After a decade of Rick Perry’s cronyism in Austin, Kay Bailey Hutchison recognizes that Texans are ready for honest leadership from a governor who will remember who she works for. While Rick Perry continues to roll out more election-year rhetoric, Hutchison has proposed comprehensive plans to improve Texas education and transportation and provide much-needed ethics reform.
Rick Perry has presided over a decade of cronyism where his top contributors and staffers-turned-lobbyists have seen their interests prevail ahead of the needs of Texans. Perry’s culture of cronyism in Austin – which brought us the Trans-Texas Corridor and the HPV mandate -- won’t change until we have a new governor.
Kay is honored to have the support of her longtime friend, Texas baseball legend Nolan Ryan. Hutchison and Ryan agree that Texas needs a governor who is committed to protecting Texans’ private property rights, lowering taxes, and securing our border
This ad highlights Rick Perry's record of pushing for more toll roads and even the conversion of existing highways into toll roads. On transportation, Rick Perry offers no solutions but a failed record of tolls, taxes and a Corridor.
Throughout his administration, Perry has consistently advocated more taxes, tolls, and the unwanted Trans-Texan Corridor for Texans.
