About this original series
Joven Film is an independent communications and film collaboration to make heard the testimonials of ex-gang members in and around Guatemala City. These are "alternative" stories about their experiences and the interventions of outsiders in juvenile violence and its prevention. "Reality Show", about a highly problematic TV show sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development, is the most recent release coming out of this collaboration. The goals of this collaboration are two: one, to help inform about how to design realistic policies for youth in Central America; and two, to provide a public voice for those who would otherwise be forgotten.
