A series of reviews from thelondonbiker.com and journeytorussia.co.uk - we spend most of our time bombing around on motorbikes - we also spend a lot of time camping on the road, and that means we've bought an used a stupid amount of kit. This series of shows starts to review some of the kit, and lets you know what the best options are when you're on the road.
theaussieshop.co.uk very kindly lent me a Coolabah Swag bag to test - just to see if it was practical to take on a bike for a long trip.It was a total success and I'm now seriously considering taking one to Russia - with all the modern tents on the market that fold up to the size of a wallet I think we may have lost something when we left canvas behind.
This is a really short really simple guide to buying a tent - taking you through the basic designs, Dome, Gedesic, and Tunnel we explore what to look out for and what the main differences between the budget ranges and the more expensive options on the market.Special thanks to P&J camping in St Albans and Traveldri-Plus
Last weekend Patrick took part in a two day off-road training day down in East Sussex - he had a great day and this video explores some of the things you'll learn, and how it could help when preparing for your Journey.
They've let me out of the garage - goodness knows why - but Patrick, Stace and I headed down to the London Business Centre over the weekend and met up with some great people who are there to make planning your trip nice and easy - but in the main we just liked to play with the kit and mess around with the camera!
Some people may say this is a luxury - but frankly there is nothing worse than waking up in a cold tent on a cold morning to be greeted by instant coffee or stale tea. The easy way to solve this problem? A camping espresso machine of course! Perfect for that first thing wake-me-up.
The Trangia is a wonderful all round system. I use the 25 (the slightly larger version) because I find the 27 too small for a decent cup of tea for more than one person, and whilst there is an obvious space saving issue, I also find the 27 too fiddly to use with the multi-fuel burner. Talking of which I’d consider the multi-fuel system an absolute must - the meths burner which comes with the system is fine if you have an hour to make a cup of tea - but as we discovered on the Dartmoor training...
It may not be cheap, but £115 for total sleeping comfort is worth every penny. I love camping, there’s nothing I’d rather do that get way out into the countryside in the middle of no-where and sit staring at the stars. But when I crawl into my little tent I do actually want to sleep.
