I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel and see many parts of the world. During my gap year I lived I started of living in Shanghai but it took me all over China, the East coast of Australia, Vietnam and back home by train from Beijing to London. However although I took literally thousands of photos, I dont feel that I took the opportunity to document my experiences in a way that I and others could look back on easily. This is the first video blog that I have attempted, the Kilimanjaro trek. Hopefully it goes some way to showing you what it was like. Depending on how well received this blog is, Im planning on doing some more in the future. Josh
After an hour bus journey to the base of Kilimanjaro and completeing the necessary paperwork, we started the long 6 day trek to the summit...
The first day climb seemed to be pretty easy, it was just a case of getting into the swing of things. Time passed by relatively quickly by meeting and getting to know other people on the group.
Tired and hungry, we reached the camp for day 1 and was the first time we saw the peak clearly, it looked miles and miles away. The cold also became an issue as we tried to get some sort of nights sleep...
Video taken after a really bad nights sleep...make sure you bring a good sleeping mat
After walking for a while within the forest you suddenly come to a clearing with amazing views.
Note: Dont film when your walking up steep mountain. Amazing feeling walking in the clouds. Apologies for the disgraceful singing in the background
Day 2 was again pretty easy, abit more hours walking than day 1, it got abit colder as you move from being within the forest to the open air. The sunset at camp was breathtaking an incredible end to a long and tiring day.
A little bit of a headache kicking in here as you get higher and higher. But the stop for lunch and the scenery surrounding us made you forget all about it.
The start of day 3 was surprisingly hot with the sun beaming in your face, having the view of the summit makes you want to get there faster but also makes you realize how far off you really are... Although you do look like a massive idiot wearing those sunglasses its better than huge amounts of sand being blown into and scratching your eyes.
