Gilbert & George "London Pictures" at LEHMANN MAUPIN GALLERY

For six years the artistic team of Gilbert & George collected and categorized over 3,700 postings from British tabloids, transposing their texts over photomontages and installing the resultant groupings of photos as massive grids of screaming headlines. Essentially the "London Pictures" are a poetic representation of a city that is writing itself. This exhibition is the first major showing of Gilbert & George in New York since 2004 and includes installations in three galleries (though your reporter was only able to access two).
