About this episode

TV-UN

James Kalm bumps into the Good Humor man in front of the James Cohen Gallery’s opening for Alison Elizabeth Taylor. Taylor presents rustic American tableaus, depicted in highly detailed wooden veneered panels. A beguiling dichotomy is created with this classic medieval technique used by kings and nobility for the depictions of extravagant materialism, but here employed to render the harsh unseen side of a hip South-West American utopianism gone sallow. With the tones of natural wood, and realistic images this technique creates polished surfaces that are astounding in their richness. Includes a comment by painter James Gilroy, and cameo appearances by Jerry Saltz and Roberta Smith.
