Jack Gibbons performs the third movement (Largo) of Chopin's Sonata in B minor Op.58, recorded live in Oxford on 30th March 2010. The audio is accompanied by a slide show of pictures of Chopin, and of George Sand’s chateau at Nohant where Chopin wrote most of his mature works. Chopin's great masterpiece, the 4 movement Sonata in B minor Op.58 was written mostly in the summer of 1844, just two months after Chopin received the devastating news of the death of his father in May 1844. Chopin's personal pain is evident in every note of this, his most poignant work, one of the most grief filled and deeply moving and melancholic works ever written.
