Milly Iatrou and R.A. Morgan have been making videos together since the eighties when they collaborated on a series for the Artists’ Television Show, COMMUNICATIONS UPDATE a.k.a. CAST IRON TV. For the last twenty years they have been working on a series of videos inspired by the work of 19th century poets and artists. Their work has been shown at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Whitney Museum, The World Wide Video Festival, L.A. Freewaves, The Mill Valley Film Festival and the American Museum of the Moving Image.
Based on a short story by Frederic Tuten, it distills Tuten's life story, beginning with his birth in the Bronx, through his childhood, sentimental education, influences, development as an artist, and imagined future death, using found archival film, documentary video, voice over and on screen text.
This video was shot at the Avalanche facsimile launch hosted by Printed Matter on 22 May 2010. The Avalanche facsimile, published by Primary Information and distributed by D.A.P., makes the complete set of 13 issues of the magazine available for the first time in 30 years.
