Welcome to Honor Your Truth The “Is It True?” Series Episode Forty-Eight “Clarity comes after Commitment” I make lists….lists for various applications. My whole family performs this ritual. We grew up on them. “Gotta make a list” was a common phrase heard circling within the walls of our home. We joke about it now. We are a funny bunch. It’s as if we have a language of our own it seems. We all love the list paper….the cute kind, the humorous kind, the inspiring kind. If you are into something in particular, you get that kind of list paper. For instance, my mom loves frogs and cows. She can’t resist list paper with frogs or cows on it…..oh and shoes and seasonal are favorites as well. Like I said, we are big on lists. My current frig magnet pad has the “Red Hots” candy logo on top. It’s retro cool. The last one was “Good n’ Plenty”. It was a package of 5 on a theme. The weird thing is that unless I am having a dinner party or house guest, I don’t need a list. I live alone and I find it good mental exercise to keep it all in my head and remember. However, I have the tablet hanging there and I do write on it, but I rarely take it to the store. It’s kind of an esthetic thing, like having a zillion little pillows on the couch or soap balls in the shell soap dish (just for the record, I do not have a shell soap dish). A list can fool me into thinking that I am actually getting something done, so I have to watch for that. I am all for a little prioritizing, organizing….the details that a list can provide, but I must keep an eye out for procrastination. That sly little devil can sneak in when I’m not looking. Under the guise of this not only legitimate planning tool, but family tradition, I am merely getting ready to get ready to get ready to do something. It might feel like I am really getting down to business, but I’m not. I am very capable of making a decision, making a list and then accomplishing nothing. I move everything on my list today to the new list I am making for tomorrow. If I do something that is not on the list, it is just plain goofy to write it down, so I can cross it off. A decision is just that, a decision, which means little to nothing without backing it up with action. Action is a commitment to that decision. Taking action makes it real. It begins with the first step…..and then I see further. I may have a plan, some kind of idea what the second, third, and fourth steps may be…I’ve made my list…but all I need really be concerned with is that first step. Using the information I have gained from that first one, I clearly know what the next one is. The decision then becomes real. It takes on a life of its own. The decision becomes truth. I have waited to “be sure”. I have waited to know what the “right thing” is; I have waited for the “thumbs up”. The only thing I ended up doing was that….waiting. I was not honoring the gift of inspiration which cannot be manufactured. I can make list after list, but not one of them can say “receive inspiration” as a task. It is a gift. I am now aware of, and trust those little nudges, the still voice that gives me the gift of inspiration. When I honor it,…..make a commitment to it by taking action, however small, I will receive more….which is the clarity I seek. If I do not honor my truth by taking action, making a commitment…..I get lost and confused. The inspiration gets muffled and bogged down with chatter. It becomes unrecognizable as anything but fear. Commitment is the difference between “I want to” and “I am”. The space between them is small…..one step. “I am” is very powerful. I claim who “I am”…I Honor My Truth!
