The town of La Oroya, high in the Peruvian Andes, is one of the most polluted places in the world. The town is dominated by a massive metal processing plant; 97% of the children have lead poisoning, and twice the arsenic and 6 times the cadmium than the average American child. The landscape, scoured by toxic rain, looks like a moonscape. Who is responsible for the reprehensible conditions? Correspondent Mick Davie traveled to Peru to find out, and learned that the metal processing plant is owned by an American billionaire who promised to clean up the factory, but who many say has only made things worse. World Report airs Tuesdays at 9pmET on HDNet.
