“Dan Rather Reports” sits down with Michigan Governor Rick Snyder to discuss a plan that he says will bring new jobs to struggling Michiganders. It’s a plan though, that has left some other people scratching their heads. The Governor says one way to solve Michigan’s job crisis, is to bring more immigrants to the state. It may seem counter intuitive, but the statistics are powerful.A quarter of all the hi-tech companies started in the US between 1995-2005 were founded by immigrants, including giants like Yahoo!, eBay, Google, Intel and You Tube. And Michigan’s immigrants are especially productive: immigrants are eight times more likely than natives to file an international patent in Michigan. And one-third of Michigan’s high tech firms were created by immigrants – and that is in a state whose population is only six-percent foreign born. "Start-up Michigan" airs September 27, 2011. Dan Rather Reports airs Tuesdays at 8pm ET.
