GRITtv: Elections In Iran: A 'Charade' Or A Sign Of Change To Come?

After presidential incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared an unexpected landslide victory on Saturday, masses of opposition supporters poured into the streets of Tehran and continue to make noise, defying the protest ban. The international community remains cautious about taking a stance on the results quite yet but reports out of Tehran suggest that unrest is growing. To talk us through the events of the weekend and what they think should happen next, we welcome David Barsamian, founder of Alternative Radio, winner of ACLU's Upton Sinclair Award for Independent Journalism and co-author of Targeting Iran. Joining him in discussion, are Hamid Dabashi, author of Islamic Liberation Theology: Resisting the Empire and professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Literature at Columbia University and Kelly Golnoush Niknejad, founder and editor, TehranBureau.com.
