IBAP Meeting on Friday October 14th @ Full Moon Brewwork Microbrewery & Restaurant JungCeylon in Patong Beach Dan & me, from our team on Good Morning Andaman on Radio Thailand Phuket team plus khun Rin from IBAP, International Business Association, talked to Ike Nwankwo, ex NBA player incl Los Angeles Laker & now Head Coach Top Flight Basketball Academy, Bangkok, before his speech and presentation at IBAP meeting. Top Flight Basketball Academy is a diversified basketball program new to Thailand founded by former UCLA and NBA Player, Ike Nwankwo. It specializes in teaching and promoting the game at the youth and High School levels. The programs include clinics, after school programs, camps and individual or group private training sessions. Each program is designed with one aim in mind: to equip students with the skills and the knowledge to become the best basketball player they can. Students will be able to learn from an ex player and coach who has played for over 25 years at the highest levels of the game. While in Phuket Ike would love to meet with the all of the major international and Thai schools as well as local community leaders and government officials and any owners of sporting halls or sports complexes to be able to discuss potential events like a camp or clinic. He would also like to meet some disadvantaged children possibly do a short clinic with them. Unfortunately because of current programs in Bangkok he can not spend more than one day visiting schools this time, but would love to visit as many as possible on the one day he is in town. Contact Ike directly about meeting with him and learn more about Top Flight Basketball Academy at www.topflightbangkok.com ----- & I also talked to James Firth, IBAP President, about their Phang Nga Bay Clean-Up TODAY Saturday October 15th @ 3 Main Activity Points Everyone Invited to Laem Hin for "the weighing of the rubbish" @ 4 PM "We have some jobs needing volunteers, and some purchases like gloves and boots needing some cash support so bring along a few extra baht to help out. In this Pilot Project event we will endeavor to collect as much discarded plastic and rubbish as we can from several locations in Phang Nga Bay. Three boats carrying more than 100 volunteers will depart from 3 different ports around Phuket Island. Our rubbish collection can make a great start to the awareness of the maintenance needed to keep our "back yard" Phang Nga Bay healthy. We understand the importance of leading through education, awareness and setting good examples for the young and old. By encouraging participation from both adults and children, we will not only create an awareness of the pollution issues that we face but also ensure that the next generations also appreciate the importance of behaving in an environmentally responsible way. Each bay clean-up will be run in a manner that both educates and entertains volunteers, with the emphasis on having fun. Teaching youngsters that you can be "green" whilst also having a good time is an important message.
